Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods Endorses City of Atlanta’s T-SPLOST Referendum

November 2, 2016 by BCN Admin ID

Organization Representing Eighteen North Atlanta Neighborhood Associations Supports Sales Tax Increase

ATLANTA, Nov. 2, 2016 – The Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods, an organization representing 18 neighborhood associations in north Atlanta, has passed a resolution in support of the City of Atlanta’s Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) referendum that is on the Nov. 8 ballot.

After a presentation by City of Atlanta officials and discussion among neighborhood representatives at the October 13th meeting, a resolution in support of the T-SPLOST was proposed for consideration.  Representatives presented the proposal to their neighborhood organizations and returned a vote on the resolution within two weeks of the proposal.  The resolution received the required two-thirds support of member neighborhoods and has been officially adopted as follows:

On November 8, 2016, Atlanta voters will have the opportunity to vote on a 0.4 cent Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) which is expected to generate approximately $300 million over a five-year period for the City of Atlanta.

The Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods, representing 18 neighborhood associations in North Atlanta, endorses the proposed 0.4 cent sales tax increase to be used for transportation in the City of Atlanta. BCN believes the five-year commitment to invest in transportation and pedestrian infrastructure will directly benefit the quality of life and safety of our neighborhoods. We encourage all voters in the Buckhead communities and the City of Atlanta to vote in favor of the T-SPLOST referendum on November 8th.

The Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods is a group of passionate and concerned citizens who have looked closely at the benefits of this tax increase.   “We believe these additional tax dollars will enable strategic investments in traffic and pedestrian infrastructure that will directly benefit the quality of life throughout the City of Atlanta”, said Tom Tidwell, Chairman of the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods.

PLEASE VOTE.  Go to www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/ to locate earling voting locations, your polling site on election day and to download a customized sample ballot.
